Summary

The uber luxurious Crans Montana is great for those who want the convenience of a city whilst being in the mountains. With more than 150 shops, 70 restaurants, a casino and a golf course amongst other things, you will never grow bored here. Made up of two separate villages, Crans is generally known as the upmarket village whilst Montana is more family friendly. Joined by a kilometre-long boutique lined street, both Crans and Montana are lovely places to stay.

A 40-minute drive from Sion airport or 2 hours from Geneva 

Winter

150km of perfectly groomed pistes, extensive off piste and the fact that half of the visitors to Crans Montana come for the shopping, not for the riding mean there are always fresh lines to be found. Best suited to beginners and intermediates, the more experienced skiers and boarders will need to explore a bit harder to find more challenging terrain. The highest riding is at 3000m on the Glacier Plaine Mort, though the majority of the skiing is done below that. South facing slopes mean beautiful sunny riding, and though this could be a problem, there is a good snow making system in place to ensure decent coverage throughout the season.

Summer

With 280km of marked walking paths, 117km of mountain biking trails, five swimming lakes, canyoning, rock climbing and mountaineering on offer, the summer season is just as busy as winter. Add to this the 18 and 9-hole golf courses with panoramic views that stretch from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc, and you’re hard pressed to find a better summer resort.
