Summary

Nendaz is Verbier’s nearest neighbour, by ski, and benefits from a family-friendly reputation. Perched on a sunny plateau above Sion in the Rhône valley, the resort offers stunning views across to the mountains of Canton Vaud and beyond. Nendaz’s modern centre is the heart of the resort; below is the face of original Nendaz, an old Valaisian, farming village. Back in resort there is a good selection of restaurants, shops and other facilities, with enough après-ski to please most people.
Access

A speedy motorway drive along Lake Geneva's northern edge and along the Rhône valley to Sion before the road winds up to the resort. The train from Geneva airport also stops in Sion.

Winter

As part of Switzerland’s Four Valleys ski area, Nendaz links into 400kms of pisted runs and Europe’s most easily accessible and extensive off piste free-riding. It’s as easy to reach the intermediate skiing about Thyon and Veysonnaz as it is to test your skills on Mont Fort and the famous itinerary routes of Tortin and Gentianes above Verbier. Lift passes are available for the local ski area or the entire 4 Valleys.

Summer

Nendaz in summer is best known for its network of “Bisses”, irrigation channels carved in the mountains. Aside from walking there is the expected selection of summer sports; downhill, mountain biking is particularly popular as the annual “Grand Raid” passes through the resort. The Rhône Valley is a source of excellent wines with an annual “Caves Ouvertes”.

As ski property prices have soared in nearby Verbier value-savvy investors have discovered the charms of Nendaz and the benefits of linking into the 4 Valleys ski area. Despite ongoing restrictions for foreign buyers in Switzerland, there is still opportunity to buy resale and new-build property in Nendaz at close to half the price of Verbier.
