Chamrousse, accessibility and authenticity
It was at Recoin 1650 that the first trials of skiing in France took place and that the resort was born in 1952. Although it was a pioneering resort in many respects (Chalet-Auberge built in the mountains in 1865, first skis used in the mountains in 1878 and first alpine ski area in 1893), the resort really took off when it hosted the alpine skiing events of the 1968 Grenoble Olympic Games, with the live television coverage of Jean-Claude Killy's triple gold medal achievements. Located only 30 km from Grenoble, Chamrousse offers the closest access to the high mountains from an urban area, a town of 700,000 inhabitants and 70,000 businesses. Chamrousse offers a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking in the Belledonne Massif, mountain biking and climbing. The Alpine Park has over 90 km of slopes. A freestyle area is also appreciated for its varied levels of difficulty. The "Domaine Nordique", dedicated to cross-country skiing, is located in a natural wooded area of 44 hectares.
