Méribel Ski Resort Guide

Méribel Ski Property

  • A lively, friendly ski resort popular with English and French families
  • The middle valley of Les Trois Vallees, 2 hours from Geneva, 1 from Chambery
  • Extensive piste skiing, the link between the ski runs in Courchevel and Val Thorens
  • Famous for an English heritage
  • The pretty alpage makes it a destination for walkers in the summer

Summary

While neighbouring Courchevel has the glamour, Méribel's appeal lies in its family-friendly feel and charming alpine appearance. The main resort of Méribel has an abundance of amenities and is surrounded by a number of quieter, smaller villages. Méribel Centre is the largest of the villages and so hosts the greatest selection of shops, bar and restaurants. Stretching from the Chaudanne through Morel up to the Altiport, accommodation is a mix of chalets and apartments. Méribel Mottaret is a purpose built resort sitting at 1700m just above Méribel Centre, with a more modern feel - much of the accommodation offers direct ski to door access. Whilst smaller than Méribel, Mottaret boasts plenty of bars and restaurants. Lse Allues, at 1100m altitude, at the other end of the valley, is linked to Méribel Centre by the Olympe gondola. A small village with a traditional feel, itis an ideal location for those seeking an ‘away from it all’ atmosphere whilst maintaining easy access to the ski area. Also below Méribel the nearby hamlets of Village, Mussillion and Le Raffort have their own appeal.

Access

There are regular winter air services to Chambery (1 hour's drive away) or year-round flights to Geneva airport, just over 2 hours away. During the winter the Eurostar also runs trains to Moutiers.

Winter

In the centre of the Three Valleys – or Les Trois Vallees - Méribel offers easy access to one of the world’s largest ski areas.

Summer

Méribel retains its pretty appearance in summer, situated within France’s original national park, and the 600km of marked paths and numerous mountain refuges also appeal to walkers. Mountain biking and golf are also very popular summer activities.

Property Market

Méribel has been popular with British visitors and property owners for some time, the strict building regulations have maintained a traditional look and feel in the resort's appearance. Apartment blocks and chalets are tastefully built from local materials such as wood, slate and stone. Other than the uber-desirable Domaine de Burgin, the lion's share of chalet property is found in the outlying hamlets. Méribel Centre is home to a choice of apartments, many with ski-in, ski-out accessibility. Prices compare favourably to Courchevel making the middle valley a more affordable choice.
