Summary

St Martin de Belleville is a beautiful village located on the steep slopes of the Vallee de Belleville, just below Les Menuires and Val Thorens. Centred around a 16^th century church there are no apres bars, or clubs filled to the brim with English tourists but the small central village has some lovely restaurants (one Michelin-starred), and all the necessary shops. With its old school charm and quiet way of life, St Martin is perfect for those who want the skiing of the Trois Vallees without the frenzied nightlife.

Winter

The local skiing in St Martin is an intermediates paradise. There are plenty of rolling blue and red pistes to build up confidence, and when you feel like you are ready to progress to more challenging terrain, there is a fast gondola from the village which takes you to Meribel and Les Menuires. With no green slopes, absolute beginners may struggle, but there is a long and gentle blue run leading back to the village which most beginners can hone their skills on. 

Summer

The quiet charm of St Martin is even more apparent in the summer, and that is what we love about it. The lift system making the mountain accessible to hikers and mountain bikers is open four days a week, making day trips to the Trois Vallees possible, and in neighbouring Les Menuires the lifts are open every day except Sunday. A recent initiative with Les Menuires to make the resorts more accessible to people with disabilities saw the creation of the Plan de l’Eau Lake area which has easy access walking paths and family friendly tours of the local area. Val Thorens is just a 20-minute drive away for more extreme summer activities, but the relaxed atmosphere of St Martin is always a pleasure to come back to.
