Swiss Air are Flying to Sion this Winter!

Powdair may not be flying this winter, but SwissAir will be stepping in for holiday makers with flights to Sion in January and February 2018!

What's Going On?

Zermatt ski resort switzerlandSki specialist airline Powdair cancelled all their flights due to a key investor withdrawing financing in late November. Flying to Sion from 6 UK locations, Powdair would have made the commute to resorts such as Zermatt, Saas Fee and Verbier quick and easy, with some popular ski resorts located less than 30-minutes drive from Sion airport. With 5000 holiday makers left in the lurch, SwissAir has announced that in the busy months of January and February, they will be offering flights from London, Zurich and Porto to the alpine airport of Sion.

Since Powdair’s announcement, most skiers will stick with Geneva as their main port-of-call, though most ski resorts in the Swiss Alps are over 2-hours drive away and flying to Sion significantly cuts down transfer times.

Transfer Times from Sion

Each of these are popular Swiss ski resorts that take more than 2-hours to drive to from Zurich or Geneva. From Sion, there are dozens of resorts - famous and less well known - that can be reached in less than one-hour.

What Does the Future Look Like for Powdair?

Powdair has announced that they are working with several new parties to secure funding, and will hopefully be launching again next winter.

Nidski have been following Powdair closely since they announced their plans to launch a specialist ski airline to Sion. The service will be revolutionary for those who prefer to ski in the western Swiss Alps, cutting down transfer times allowing more child-friendly commutes and easier weekend breaks. We wish them all the best for the coming year, and can't wait to use Powdair for our ski holidays in coming winters!
