Skiing in the Swiss Alps just got a Whole Lot Easier

Do you own a ski property in the Swiss Alps? Or simply love skiing in one of the great ski areas in Vaud or Valais? Well winter just got a whole lot simpler. New airline on the block PowdAir are starting direct flights between 6 UK destinations and the Rhone valley airport of Sion, the capital of the Valais region.

Whilst Geneva has always been the main port-of-call for skiers in Switzerland, most resorts in the Western Swiss Alps are over 2 hours drive away. Flying to Sion significantly cuts down the transfer times to some of Switzerland’s best ski resorts. Transfer times from Sion to some of the most popular Swiss ski resorts are:

• 4 Valleés – 25 min
• Zermatt – 1 hr
• Saas Fee – 1 hr
• Grimentz & Zinal – 45 min
• Crans Montana – 30 min
• Anzere – 25 min
• Villars - 50 min

Cutting down drive times by hours, the airport also has the benefit of being one of the most stunning arrival points. With a Category C classification, the steep mountains make the take-off and landings one of the trickiest in the world, and pilots require specialist training to fly here.

Flying out of London Luton, London Southend, Edinburgh, Manchester, Southampton and Bristol, Powdair will also run flights from Antwerp and Hamburg as well.

With tickets costing around £140 return, including baggage and ski gear, flying to Sion with PowdAir is the quickest and easiest way to get to some of the best ski resorts in the Alps that are usually a bit hard to get to – and at a pretty decent price too!

PowdAir will take bookings for flights from June 6 2017, with the majority of flights from Luton (five a week), followed by Southampton (four a week) and Bristol (three a week). Manchester, Southend and Edinburgh will have two flights a week each.
