Switzerland Ski Resort Guide

Switzerland has long been a challenging market for international buyers, with a very different buying culture. Add to this the varied regulations and restrictions between individual cantons, as well as local rules, and it can be difficult to find and buy Swiss Alpine property. Buyers with big budgets are attracted by the big name resorts of Verbier, Zermatt, St Moritz, while villages such as Villars and Grindelwald can be a fantastic - and more affordable - choice for summer and winter.

A federal law restricts future new-builds in many of the most popular Swiss ski resorts; and re-sale ski property is also limited. Although purchase by foreign buyers is strictly controlled, it is still possible, with greater choice away from the top tier Swiss resorts. Foreigners are restricted to buying 1 property of no more than 200m2.

Andermatt offers the greatest flexibility for foreign buyers, benefitting from an exemption for the rules.
